Lifeguard Instructor Certification

Become a Certified Lifeguard Instructor with the American Red Cross

This course is designed to prepare qualified candidates to teach and lead American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses, equipping future lifeguards with life-saving skills and confidence.


📝 Course Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 participants required for the course to run

  • This is a Blended Learning Course combining:

    • Online coursework (approx. 2 hours)

    • Classroom instruction

    • In-water skills assessments

  • Online component must be completed prior to Day 1 of in-person training

  • Community Instructor Courses (available at select public training sites)

  • On-Site Workplace Instructor Trainings — Our certified Trainers will travel to your facility to conduct private group sessions.

Prerequisites

  • Participants must be at least 17 years old
  • Must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification to include Deep Water
  • Complete Red Cross 2 Hour Online Coursework, must print out verification of completion and bring to the first day of in-class session
