International Lifeguard Appreciation Day is July 31st. This is a day dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the vital role lifeguards play in keeping beaches, pools, and other aquatic locations safe. We want to take this time to thank our lifeguards for their dedication, bravery, and expertise in preventing accidents and saving lives.
July statistically has the highest rate of water rescues and drowning nationwide.
Please be sure you are taking the time to keep yourself healthy to stay vigilant.
Sun protection - Grab your hat, your sunglasses and the sunblock! Not only does this help to personally protect you, but hats and polarized sunglasses help to prevent distractions and blind spots created by glare on the water. Keeping a sunblock stick in your pack is super helpful, especially if you didn’t have a chance to apply on your last downtime.
Stay hydrated - Are you drinking enough water throughout the day? Are you drinking beverages that hydrate or dehydrate your body?
Don’t skip meals - I know we are always on the go, but don’t go throughout your day without some healthy snacks and meals.
Get the rest your body needs - The days are long and it is easy to want to use the most out of the sunny days, but make sure you are getting the rest your body needs. Fatigue is not something that can wait.
Be safe and be ready. We never know what the day will bring but we know what we can bring to our day!
